Creating tinyco.re links
The tinyco.re format should be used for any links used in CORE’s publications and newsletters.
We shouldn’t use a website’s full URL or another shortening service, the main reasons being consistency within the ebook and between projects, and because once a print version is released (or a pdf) it’s much easier for users to follow the link in our format.
Steps:
- Go to: https://bit.ly/
- Log in with username: contact@core-econ.org. Get the password from an EBW project lead.
- Before creating a short link, paste the destination or long URL into the search bar to check if a tinyco.re link exists already.
- If it doesn’t, click ‘Create link’ in the top right corner.
- Paste the destination URL you want to shorten, making sure it starts in ‘https’ if an ‘https’ link is available.
- Then (and this is very important) customize the back-half of the URL (everything after the backslash) by entering a random string of seven numbers only, for example, this link: https://tinyco.re/3zcDUAe should be changed to https://tinyco.re/2315487.
- Click ‘Create your link’.
- The new tinyco.re link will be copied to your clipboard, if not, click ‘copy’—this is your tinyco.re link.
